Not every diocese can claim its own Marian feast, but we are lucky enough to live in one that can. Today, 9th July, we celebrate the feast of Our Lady of Aberdeen. The statue, which is now in Belgium, is known in that country as Our Lady of Good Succour.

We celebrated Our Lady of Aberdeen in Lourdes which was awesome. I had always assumed that "Our Lady of Aberdeen" was a rather modern invention, creating an Our Lady out of thin air. So I didn't really pay that much attention. So you can imagine how I was blown away to learn of the history of the original Our Lady of Aberdeen statue, how she pre dates the Reformation!! I was thrilled to bits. Truly, God has His hand on Scotland!
We need to get that statue back!! They are being mean keeping it over in Belgum when it belongs to Aberdeen.
This title of Our Lady of Aberdeen is new to me. How lovely. How ancient. And, I love the vestments. Thanks for the photos and this post.

I am delighted to discover this feast of Our Lady of Aberdeen! Perhaps it was Our Lady who poured her grace on this conversion story below.
My great grandfather, who was brought up a Presbytarian, was originally from Aberdeen. When serving in the army and stationed in Ireland he fell in love and married an Irish Catholic, his whole family disowned him!! Through his wife's witness and guidance he converted to Catholicism; they had nine children who were all brought up as devout Catholics. My grandfather was one of their sons.
